The Communications Director is responsible for the strategy, design, and implementation of ambitious, high-impact communications campaigns to strengthen CIEL’s role and reputation as a leader in defending the right to a healthy planet and advance its vision. This is a leadership position that serves as CIEL’s institutional lead on communications, and bears primary responsibility for the strategic development, day-to-day management, and administrative oversight of communications activities for the organization. This position elevates CIEL’s profile as a whole, supports and increases the capacity and efficacy of its advocacy and the movements of which CIEL is a part, reaches and expands its target audiences, frames messages to ensure consistency and coordination across its individual programs, and shapes and shifts the narrative to achieve program goals. Responsible for the effectiveness of the organization’s communications culture and strategy, the Communications Director oversees all communications-related personnel, strategies, budgets, and activities.
This position is designed for a highly motivated leader and do-er who will work with the Vice President and Directors to leverage earned, owned, paid, and social media to advance CIEL’s vision as guided by the strategic plan. This is an ideal position for someone who thrives when balancing the big picture (and ensuring alignment with broader CIEL vision) while also able to juggle the details and moving parts. This role must be able to see the forest for the trees, while also identifying which trees deserve dedicated attention. The ideal candidate will thrive in and remain steady under pressure, efficiently manage priorities and projects, possess great attention to detail, be ready and willing to be hands on in the work, and relish managing a diverse team of individuals to achieve shared objectives.
