Maryland Environmental Health Network Welcomes Tamara Toles O’Laughlin as New Director

From Maryland Environmental Health Network:

The Maryland Environmental Health Network is pleased to announce that Tamara Toles O’Laughlin will be our next Director. You’ll see her at events this winter, as she takes over for founding Director, Rebecca Ruggles. We are excited to welcome her at the start of a busy season.

Tamara holds a Juris Doctor degree and a Masters in Environmental Law and Policy and comes to us with a portfolio of expertise in air quality, toxics, environmental justice, and capacity building. Her 15+ years of experience across government and coalitions coupled with strategic thinking about environmental advocacy will further bolster our work.

When asked about this move, Tamara says, “I am excited to join MdEHN! I intend to continue to positively impact outcomes in human health and the environment through strategic advocacy, policy and community led practice and markedly increase equity in action for all Marylanders.” This orientation, coupled with her warm personality and passion for social justice, has made her an effective change agent and cross-sector ally.

Tamara is no stranger to Maryland, with family here and having previously worked at the Maryland Energy Administration. Her recent leadership positions include executive board service roles with Ecowomen and Woman’s Voices for the Earth among others

Rebecca Ruggles, who founded the Maryland Environmental Health Network in 2012, will continue her role as the coordinator of ABAG’s Green Funders affinity group. After taking time for family, Rebecca plans to remain active in Maryland causes.

Please help us welcome Tamara as she joins our vibrant Maryland community of health advocates and environmental activists. Watch for our announcement of a spring event to celebrate MdEHN’s first 5 years and say thank you to Rebecca Ruggles.
