Top African American Environmental Leader Faces Racial Incident in Adirondacks

Race is a subject that comes up surprisingly often when we talk about the Adirondack Park. There’s a growing discussion about how to make the Park’s open spaces and small towns more welcoming to people of color.

Earlier this month, Adirondack Life magazine reported that one of the nation’s leading black environmentalists, Aaron Mair, President of the Sierra Club, was harassed and called the N-word this summer while visiting the Schroon River in Essex County.
